A colloidal silver generator is surprisingly easy to make. All that is required for a homemade generator is a 9-volt battery, wire made from 99.9% pure silver, a glass of steam-distilled water and a pair of small wooden sticks (popsicle sticks are ideal). This colloidal silver generator will not make a huge amount of silver but it will provide enough for external use and is good for emergency situations. There are various schools of thought regarding colloidal silver. Those in the medical profession dismiss any notion that this metal solution is capable of curing the amount of illnesses its proponents claim. There are various companies that disagree and sell colloidal silver with the belief that it is effective against hundreds of bacterial strains.

Setting Things UP

Get two strands of silver wire and bend the ends with pliers. Tie the wire around the ends of the battery. These strands need to hang down from the battery and must not be allowed to touch. If they do, the battery’s power will quickly be drained. The next step is to take the two small wooden sticks and place them beside one another on top of the glass of water.

The battery should be laid down flat on top of the sticks with at least four inches of wire (10cm) now submerged in the water. The purpose of the sticks is to keep the battery away from the water while still allowing the wires to remain in contact with the liquid. Again, ensure the wires are kept apart or else the whole process will be ruined. Assuming the wires are properly connected to the battery, electricity should start flowing through the wires once they are in contact with the water. This should result in tiny particles of silver forming in the water with an electrical charge suspending them.

Making Silver

After an hour, five ppm (parts per million) worth of colloidal silver will be produced. At this point, the battery should be taken off the wooden sticks so that the wires are no longer in contact with water. Stir the water with a plastic spoon so that the silver particles which have just been created are evenly spaced out. If the water used in the process is properly distilled, the silver solution should be clear in colour. A cloudy solution means that too many minerals were in the water. The silver wires may turn grey or black during the procedure. This is silver oxide and has formed because of the reaction between silver, electricity and water. Use a kitchen pad to clean the wires.

Storage

Pour the colloidal silver solution into a dark glass bottle with a cork or plastic lid. It is possible to purchase the necessary bottles online from specialist stores. Store the bottle in a cabinet away from heat and light. Exposure to light causes the colloidal silver to cease being suspended in the water and it also tarnishes the metal. The solution can also be stored in a plastic bottle but it has been proven that colloidal silver lasts longest when kept in a dark glass container.

A Warning

It should be noted that there are professional colloidal silver generators on the market which produce a premium quality solution. The above steps will create a crude batch of colloidal silver which will consist of larger than normal particles. If the silver wire used in this procedure is anything less than top quality, it could be extremely risky to consume the resultant colloidal silver. Homemade colloidal silver should only be created in an emergency and is not suitable for regular use. Excessive consumption could lead to various health problems such as Argyria which occurs when too much silver gets lodged in the human body.
